Daman Botanical Garden, Daman

Daman Botanical Garden is situated at (2320 m.) and at about 75 km (road distance) from Kathmandu and lies on southwestern part of it . The total land area covered by the garden is 15 Ha (300 Ropani). Principal objective of the garden is to conserve the garden with shade house germplasm of the plants occurring in the garden and its surrounding locality. Further, it is also aimed to represent different plant species having similar bioclimatic condition from other parts.The surrounding area is dominated by moderate to matured Pinus wallichiana forest. Quercus semecarpifolia begins to appear from this locality and extends right up to top of the mountain forming a dense forest . Other component trees species of this locality are Rhododendron arboreum, Alnus nepalensis, Shcima wallichli, Myriea esculenta, Betula alnoides, Pinus roxburghii etc. The shrub species present in this area are Gaultheria fragantissima, Berberis asiatica, Mahonia napaulensis, Pyracantha crenulata, Viburnum sp.etc.

Medicinal plants like Astible rivularis, Asparagus racemosus, Panax ginseng, Acorus calamus, Ammomum subulatum and the ornamental flowers like tulips are successfully cultivated in this garden.Moreover, this place (Daman) is of great attraction for the tourists and naturalists alike because of its beautiful landscape and luxuriant vegetation as natures gift.
