Mulpani Botanical Garden, Salyan

Mulpani Botanical Park is located 2.5 km north-west of Kapurkot along the Rapti Highway. Its establishment v. No. It happened in 2056 BS. Situated at an altitude of 1420 meters above sea level, this botanical garden covers an area of 5.5 hectares. Since its inception, this park has been providing in-situ and local protection of plants. Talking about the botanical records of mulpani botanical garden, so far 156 botanical families, 551 species of 405 species have been accounted for and this trend is continuous. Of these, 257 are in-situ plants and 294 species are exotic plants. Out of the total 551 species preserved in mulpani botanical garden, there is a majority of pothra species on the basis of grass, pothra and trees, which is 248 species. It is followed by 133 species of trees, 99 species of butyan, 37 species of wave and 34 species of epiphyte respectively. In total, there are 495 species of angiosperms, 19 species of gymnosperms and 37 species of non-flowering plants. Of these, 201 species have been preserved as ornamental plants. Thirty-four species have been found to be useful as avenue trees, 12 species are used for garden hedges and 52 species are listed as exotic plants. In the garden area, including sungava or sunakhari, 66 species are rare endangered and preserved as listed plants in Sitis. Similarly, there are 8 types of religious species and 6 types of sweet species and 245 species of medicinal plants. The park has eight thematic units namely Rock Garden (Dhunge Batika), Physique Garden (Herbal Garden), Aquatic Garden, Dream Garden, Educational Garden, Ethnobotanical Garden, Rare Endangered Garden, Taxonomic Family Garden and three germplasm protected units namely Fern House, Cactus House, Orchid House. Important herbs like Timur, Tejpat, Cowlo, Amla, Harro, Varro, Sugandhakokila, Sugandhawal, Kurillo, Rittha etc. are preserved in this park, while 30 types of rare endangered plants include Sunakhari, Kakarsingi, Tatello, Lautsalla, Satisal, Vijaysal, Kalbal, Gunsi Chiraito etc.

The Mulpani Botanical Park, which has been moving ahead with the goal of making karnali state one of the most visitable places, is becoming one of the tourist areas of Salyan district. The park remains open throughout the year and anyone can easily observe the park free of cost during office hours. Around 5,000 visitors visit the park every year. In addition, the park area is being developed as an educational hub for students and researchers. Visitors usually come from Salyan, Dang, Rukum, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Surkhet and other districts.
