Sanjeev Kumar Rai joined the Government of Nepal as an officer in 2004. He started his professional career as the Chief of the District Plant Resources Office, Jumla. Since then he has served as the Chief of Central Garden, Singhadurbar, DPRO Kailali, National Herbarium and Plant Laboratories, Lalitpur. He also worked as an officer in the Biotech Section and Publicity and Documentation Section of the Department. He served this department as the Deputy Director General of DPR since 2015 just before taking the role of the Director General of the DPR. He is also representative member of many academic institutions including the Tribhuvan University.
He has 13 years of experience in plant science research in Nepal. Mr. Rai was the managing editor of Plant Resources (2010) and an associate editor of Botanica Orientalis (2003).He has also worked at Nepal Agriculture Research Council (2003-2004).
He is skilled in statistical analyses and various computing packages including R-environment and is familiar with CANOCO, SPSS, MS ACCESS database. He has expertise in photography of plants and insects, including habitat and close-up images and photo-micrographs. Mr. Sanjeev has written a book entitled “Nepalko Arthik Bikaskalagi Prathamikta Prapta Tis Jadibutiko Pahichan Pustika (Nepali) (2010)”and co-author of books “Basics of Gardening (2010)”, “Catalogue of Nepalese Flowering Plants of Nepal (2015)”, “Flowering Plants of Nepal- An Introduction (2017)”, “A Handbook of Flowering Plants of Nepal Volume1 (2017)”,”रामापिथेकस वनस्पति उद्यानका वनस्पतिहरु (2017)”. He has published 4 new records of plants from Nepal and one peer-reviewed research paper and several articles in local journals and popular media.
