Maipokhari Botanical Garden,Ilam (2121m)

The Maipokhari Botanical Garden is situated 15 km north of Ilam Bazaar, East Nepal, Province no.1. It is established in 1992 AD. Visitors can enjoy plant diversity and beautiful landscape here. Most of the Garden area is covered by forest and Mai Pokhari pond (1.85 hectares with depth of about 8.5 m), which is more or less orbicular with nine projected corners. Maipokhari is a wetland listed as Ramsar site in 2008 which is popular as a sacred place for the Hindus and the Buddhists from the very ancient times. Visitors can also enjoy the spectacular view of green tea garden and agro-tourism on the way to the garden. Walking trail from Ilam to Sandakpur (3636 m. highest peak of Ilam) also passes through this garden.

Access:

Kathmandu to Bhadrapur airport (Jhapa) by air.  Then Bhandrapur to Ilam by jeep or bus. Ilam to Maipokhari from jeep.

Opening Time:

Daily from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm (Nov.-Jan.) and from 9:30 am- 5:00 pm (Feb.-Oct.)

Admission Fee: Free

Visitors: About 20,000 national and international visitors per year
