Introduction

The Department of Plant Resources has been established to study, research, technology development and technology transformation of the plant resources for the overall development, utilization of the plant resources and to streamline in the Gross Domestic product of the nation. The Department of Plant Resources has been mobilizing various types of scientists from multidiciplinary field like botany, chemistry, pharmacy, agriculture as a resources to move forward plant science by studying, researching, promoting plants in a multifaceted manner and in the future, by making proper use of plant resources and connecting them with production..

The Department of Plant Resources has been various publications in the form of Nepal Flora to archive plant resources. For example: Flora of Rajnikunja, Flora of Kathmandu Valley, Flora of Langtang, Flora of Phulchoki and other Provincial Flora have been publishing recently. In the last decade, the Department of Plant Resources has also started publishing Flora of Fern and Algae among non-flowering plants. The department has been working on documenting and going to published Flora of Bryophytes, Fungi and Lichen also. A Natural Resources Research Laboratory has also been set up in the Department of Plant Resources to identify the plants and their medicinal, commercial and other industrial properties and find out their utilization for domestic use also. The Natural Resources Research Laboratory and various other laboratories present at the Department of Plant Resources is also conducting research on how to commercialize conversion and use plants that have other medicinal properties after identifying plants and their qualities and demerits. In order to produce medicines and other kinds of herbs that can be taken for commercial purposes, programs for production, distribution and extensive cultivation of herbs have been started through seven Plant Research Centers of the DPR. Similarly, by developing Karnali Province as an herbal zone, the Department of Plant Resources is ready to open the door for the possibility of producing the raw material of herbs from Nepal and processing the herbs and exporting their essence abroad. For that, the work is also moving forward by certifying its laboratory with ISO17025: 2017. The National Botanical Garden has been established by Department of Plant Resources around the year 2017 B.S. It has been serving millions of students, researchers and the entire community every year. The National Botanical Garden has been developing In-situ and Ex-situ conservation of plants for research and development work and as educational garden for the various nursery students to school students to college and doctoral students. In this way, the Department of Plant Resources has been mobilizing scientists of various disciplines as manpower in an effort to study, research, cultivate and promote plants in a multifaceted manner and in the future, by making proper use of plant resources and linking it with production, it is moving ahead with its activities so that it can contribute to the gross domestic product of the state to some extent. The Department of Plant Resources is implementing its programs accordingly.

National Botanical Award

The Rastriya Wanaspati Puraskaar is awarded to the person, team or, organization for their contribution on identification, study, research, technology development, conservation and sustainable development of plant resources. The Rastriya Wanaspati Puraskaar was established in The amount of National Botanical Award is Rs.2 lakh. This award is given by the Department of Botany on National Botany Day, Chaitra 29th.
